I've heard that eating cherries and strawberries helps a lot.

GOUT is a pain in the foot, literally! My husband use to suffer with the damn thing but through diet and elimination of things he is both gout and medication free. Alcohol is a big problem with gout, it perpetuates the forming of the Uric Acid Crystals, don't drink or drink in very mild doses. White alcohols are the worst. Sweet Breads, bad for gout, Tomato's also not the best for gout. Cherries are the best thing for gout and cherry juice even better. Don't ever start anti-gout meds like Allopurinal when you have an active flare, it's like dumping gas on a fire. Try a methelprednisone or steroidal dosing drug they are quick and very effective in the first 24 hours. You will be surprised what a little prevention can give in relief! Best of luck!

The best things you can do to naturally remedy gout are: minimize proteins (purines) in the diet - eliminate red meat, chicken, and fish, even certain vegetables; remain fully hydrated at all times by sipping water throughout the day; avoid acidic juices, high fructose beverages, and acidic foods. Sometimes all these efforts are still not enough, but it will help keep the kidneys healthy even if it doesn't eliminate the gout entirely.
There is conflicting information on vitamin C - so, its probably best to keep ascorbic acid levels around the daily minimum.
