This young couple has no one here in town and at the time I accepted, I was really strapped for cash but that is not really the situation anymore. I watch their baby 5 days a wk that include weekends and charge them $90wk.Everyone who sees me home with this baby on weekends including my family tell me that I am dumb to watch her on weekends and especially for that little $. I feel bad to tell them no more b/c like I said, they have no one but the baby requires too much attention and constantly cries which disrupts my family(we have no babies in my home).Ppl tell me that this couple are not dumb, they know there is no one who is gonna do weekends for that price. Am I being foolish?

I would discuss it with the couple and tell them that either you can't watch the child on weekends and they will have to find someone else to do it. I am sure there is a daycare in your town or other girls who babysit that can do it. The couple just need to look around and do a little research (it's part of being a parent!) If they can not find anyone else or you DO want to watch the child I would tell the couple that since you are taking time our of your weekend and family time that you must get paid more for your duties. If they do not like that idea then they need to find someone else. Do not feel guilty for standing your ground. Good Luck!

I have to agree with your family. Weekends i'd be charging 150 a day.

Weekends should be being spent with your family. I'm sure someone is home on weekends. They dont want to spend time with their kids because they dont know how to deal with the crying but thats a very lame excuse if that is what their excuse is.

Time to tell them no more weekends, they will survive and find someone else or do it them selves. nothing for you to feel guilty about

They are robbing you hun. I'm serious. $90 a week for 5 days. They'd be paying $500 a week for daycare, at least. Just tell them that you need to earn more money or else your going to have to get another job and that means, no longer being available to watch thier baby. How old is this baby?

Plus, you have no social life if your doing this. STOP IT !!

And, why is this couple never home? Are they work-a-holics?

raise your price if you are going to be watching the child on the weekends as well. Tell them that you do have things to do on the weekends and it will take a little more money to convince you to cancel your plans with friends and family to babysit.

$90 weekly?....that's for someone with no life..try $100 a day!
Really..I babysit also...$100 a day.
I know you mentioned "helping them out" OK maybe they forgot and you need to remind them that will all that working they should be able to afford more. Maybe not the $100 a day but close to it..Trust me if you stop babysitting they WILL find someone who will at a much higher price.

Yes its too little. You are getting $18 a day. Unless you only watch the kid for 3-4 hours, its too little. I'd ask $5 per hour at least.

that's way too little. i am not sure where you live. but that is so tiny. i make more than that in a 4 hour shift at one of the jobs i have. and i'm 19. tell them in a nice way you need a raise or you need to find another job.
