The verses cited by others are correct. The original Greek is somewhat uncertain and the phrase could possibly be translated "77 times" or "seventy times seven", which would be 490.
Either way the meaning is clear.

Oh no!! Bible translation differences. It basically means forgive your brother a lot. Kind of like the book of revelations - "and those who shall be saved will number 144,000" - a reference to the 12 desciples, and the 12 tribes of israel - meaning "a lot"

In the NIV its Matthew 18:21-22 "21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" 22 Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

In the KJV it says "seventy times seven."

In LDS (Mormon) scripture it is found in the Doctrine and Covenants, section 98 verse 40
And so on unto the second and third time; and as oft as thine enemy repenteth of the trespass wherewith he has trespassed against thee, thou shalt forgive him, until seventy times seven.

Vot a... got the answer right. it is in Math.
Its hard to live by this, but we must. If we cannot forgive how can God forgive us. And its good for you, when u forgive,
it releases the bitterness, anger, which scientist have proven to be bad for the heart.

Matt 18:21,22

Then Peter came up and said to him: “Lord, how many times is my brother to sin against me and am I to forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him: “I say to you, not, Up to seven times, but, Up to seventy-seven times."

(Seventy times seven is rendered seventy-seven in agreement with Genesis 4:24 "If seven times Cain is to be avenged, Then La′mech seventy times and seven.”)
