Mine isn't typical. It's midspine, at the level of my mid-sternum. And, speaking of my sternum, if I slump for more than 30 seconds, there's increasing discomfort, to the point of being painful, and then when I straighten up, my sternum clicks and I have relief. So, I have to remain straight upright, and I believe this adds to the pain in my back. In a chair and in bed, I need to prop something at my mid-back or on my side to assist with the posture. I use a plastic bottle in my chair, and in bed I use 2 tennis balls in a sock. This helps some.

The osteopath pushed and pulled me. The MD saw nothing on an x-ray, and suggested motrin. Haven't tried a chiropractor, although I'm not opposed.

I'm just wondering if others have this. All my google searches turn up info on lower back pain, and upper back/shoulder pain, but I've never seen my symptoms. Anybody else have this? More importantly, did you get fixed?

Thanks!

well i have the same thing and the doctors kept telling me they saw nothing on the x-rays. I started going to a chiro and found out i have a compression fracture half way up my spine. I also get pain under the sholder blades as well if i slump. the best things i have found to help is the chiro and yoga. it seems to stretch my back muscles and loosen everything. go to a chiro and get a consult, they often see things other drs miss. and try the yoga.. it has made a HUGE difference on my back pain. also walking is great for my back as well and helps keep in in alignment

Slump for 30 seconds, then straighten up, remain straight but have to use cushions to 'support' the back. The problem here is weak muscles unable to hold the spine in the correct upright position, probably due to too much slouching, slumping in the past. Therefore you need to exercise the back muscles, try a few session of Pilate's and keep the muscles in prime condition. Good Luck

My brother has a mid back pain sometimes. He backs into a corner in the kitchen where he can put both elbows on a counter, and gradually takes the weight off of his feet and onto his elbows to pull the back straight.
