Hiya,

I have a 1995 Volvo 850 GLT Estate with no handbook.

A warning light has come up on the dash and I dont what it means.

It is a green triangle inside an orange box,

Inside the green triangle there is a black symbol that looks like an upsidedown "y"

This warning light is right next to the service warning light.

Can anyone tell me what this warning light means

Thanks.... Jabelite

My long-expired Greek tells me that is Lamda (though I could well be wrong!). I guess it's telling you the lamda sensor needs attention. What now gets swept up under the heading of Engine Management. Either a dealer or a good garage with the right equipment should be able to establish exactly what the problem is.

it's the warning light to the lambda probe, but it can have a number of different causes as to why it's on. There's no doubt that there's something wrong, it happened to me two times the first was an indicator in the exhaust, the second time it was a lousy piece of rubber that was leaking in the engine. so, what I'm trying to say, let this be checked out by a Volvo garage. so you can take the appropriate steps to fix this

It is to do with the emissions the symbol showing is for the lambda. I would see if it clears first as they can be a little temperamental. Other wise get it checked at a garage if you are worried.

This is the symbol is also the check engine light.

There will be codes stored in you system that can be pulled to help diagnose the problem.

In the USA, they use "Check Engine", in Canada and Europe they use this other symbol as an engine light.

Either way, it is part of your emissions system.

It's the Lambda (Oxygen) sensor warning light, it may have been running a bit rich and may clear, if not you'll have to get it checked at a dealer.
