I'm 28 years old, and weight 112 pounds. Typically, I eat really healthy, but I'm no saint and I do have sweets from time to time. I exercise daily. For my whole life, weight hasn't been a problem so I would eat whatever I craved, just as long as I was smart about it and did it moderation. However, now that I REALLY need to watch what I eat, does anyone recommend any certain foods and/or recipes that are good for lowering cholesterol, or certain foods I should stay away from?

Thanks!

I am assuming your total cholesterol is 239. Total cholesterol is LDL cholesterol + HDL cholesterol.

Did your physician break down your cholesterol into HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol? This may give you more information. Some physicians even use the HDL/LDL ratio to further define your CHD (heart disease) risk.

I ask because you mention you exercise daily. In my youth, when I ran 40-50 miles a week, my total cholesterol was always around 250 because my "good" HDL cholesterol was very high.

Eat oatmeal everyday for breakfast. Take fish oil capsules and odor free garlic tablets daily. These all help lower cholesterol naturally, without prescription drugs. Stay away from high fat, high cholesterol foods. Eat them only once in a while, or not at all. Good luck to you.

Sometimes this is inherited. But change your diet and stay away from fats. Chicken and fish are better proteins. Red meat is not good, sausage & bacon(high in fats). Try shopping at your local health food store. Usually they have all kinds of books on diseases & natural cures. Home cooked soups are great for you. I cook bean soup with onions & garlic once a week for my husband. Read labels too. Good Luck

High Cholesterol can run in families too. You can eat oatmeal :) Other than that, I would recommend looking online for something more in depth. Good luck!
