I have a really whiny, hyper cat. She is 3 and she has been spayed. She has a lot of bad habits that really need to be broken, such as stratching my dresser and crying in the middle of the night for no reason.

Any such thing as a cat whisperer? Any ideas on how to calm an adult cat?

Hmmm... No but I think my mom or I could probably do it. I've been around cats my whole life. My mom works with veterinarians and has been working with animals for a long time. I think you may need to look at what the cat wants. (food, attention, play time, etc.) I would recommend reading books about cats. You should do what you can to make the dresser unattractive. Does the cat have a scratching post or something? My cats have toys, cat furniture, and these discs with cardboard in the middle and a ball that circles around. I play with them. They sleep with me and my husband. I have 2.

Cat's are different than horses or dogs, which are "pack" animals. You've heard the expression "herding cats", probably, as a joke. So I think it takes a very different technique than "whispering".
I would buy a good book on cat training.

Jelly, You might want to put a little time aside during the day to play with her. Twenty minutes of interactive play with a cat dancer or some other interactive toy will help. If she gets rid of pent up energy during the day, she'll be less likely to be mischevious at night and more likely to sleep. Boredom is the culprit here.

learn feline acupuncture. Community Colleges sometimes will offer a non credited course where you can bring your cat in. I have a crazy cat too and this really helps to calm him down. You can also buy a feline acupuncture chart on line. Oh and this is not acupuncture with the needles...perfectly harmless to cat.

good luck.

I belive not because if they can read their mind or talk or listen to them why cant we and also I think "whispers" are just people who say stuff that comes to their mind and make alot of money and also on a show they could be reading something off a screen
