This is known as sleep paralasys. It is nothing to worry about. It is a normal state we go through when transitioning from sleep to consciousness.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. The same thing happened to me once but I awoke from a nap during the daytime. All I could do was lay there and stare at the ceiling for about 15 - 20 minutes, eventually I could move but I was paralyzed and terrified for the entire time.

Dear you, this is a very common phenomenon. It happened to me many times. You feel like being awake but aren't really fully awake. Its just a step of consciousness that may occur just before you are fully awake. It happens to many people and is nothing to worry about at all, and certainly nothing to try to interpret. There is nothing supernatural about this, if you had that hope I may disappoint you, but it is always better to know the truth, the truth will set you free, didn't even Jesus say that?.

No. I've had it happen to me several times. It is really weird. This happens when your brain wakes up before your body gets the message. Everyone (except for sleepwalkers, I suppose) gets a degree of paralysis when they sleep. Otherwise, people would be acting out their dreams with their bodies and people would probably get hurt! That, and I'd be stalking Johnny Depp in my sleep. Anyway, when your body is slow to wake up, you get that weird experience. Don't worry, your body will get the message, it can just take a minute sometimes.

The first time this happened to me, I thought I was dying. It was tooooo freaky!
