all the stuff about not touching pigskin and stoning adulterers. I get frustrated with all the people who think those laws are still part of Christian belief. Extra credit for showing us exactly which OT laws still do apply, and why.

primoa - why can't a staunch, ardent, educated bible-believer such as your self give specifics?

Kevin S - in fairness, the New testament speaks out against homsexuality as well, but doesn't say much about shellfish.

Obanroo - please provide scripture to support your claim about those laws only applying tot he people of Israel, because I can find no Biblical support for that claim.

While some laws are greater than others (Murder is obviously worse than loitering) all laws still apply, do they not?

The Book of Galatians tries to explain where the Christian Faith stands on this. It is not every aspect of The Law that is no longer in effect. It is the aspect of communing with Spirit.
Because they had taken it to an extreme, and no longer Communed with the Holy Spirit either.
When we speak to individuals with Spiritual Gifts, we shouldn't concern ourselves with the mundane. Like when will win the lottery, and get money, and or a good paying job. But ask Spirit to let us know what is the most important things our Creator wants us to know right now. For our spiritual growth.

All of the OT laws are still valid however, in practice, some cannot be done...such as all the laws regarding the sacrificial service as the sacrificial service can only be done when there is a functioning Temple in Jerusalem. Another set of laws that are not practiced are the laws regarding the prosecution of criminals and the handing down of sentences such as the death penalty....these can only be practiced when there is a Sanhedrin of 71 functioning in the Temple.

The laws are still valid.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
The 10 commandments are still valid.
So what got changed? The blood ordnance's. Christ fulfilled all them by becoming our blood sacrifice for all time. Col 2.
People don't rightly divide the the difference between Law, statures, and ordnance's.

Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John.
Also Matt. 22 :35-40 Jesus was asked by one versed in the law which was the greatest commandment? Jesus replied by saying "You must love God with your whole heart and soul." Second: "You must love our neighbor as yourself."
If we followed these two commandments perfectly there would be no need for any others.
We are not under the Mosiac law. Those were laws given to the nation of Israel. God set those laws for them because they were a "hardheaded" people. Jesus by his life saving blood released us from these laws.

Well, Matthew 5:18 makes it pretty clear what Jesus' stance is on the OT laws.
Not one jot or tittle. Not one single thing is to be changed about Old Testament laws until heaven and earth pass away. From the Savior's lips to your ears.

Paul addresses it in Hebrews in a way.
But that is to be expected as Paul was a Roman, and had many Roman, gentile friends.
The doctrine of fulfillment is purposefully obscure, to allow for subjective interpretation of which laws are still active and which are just 'cultural'.
I find it funny, that modern Christians state that they don't have to live by the OT law, but easily ignor the fact that according to their beliefs, the God they worship as loving, created the OT laws.

Matthew 5:17-18 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished."
There are many specific references that show that Christ came to fulfill the OT and the purpose of it was to be a type and shadow to reveal His coming. The law is still binding upon us, but we keep it vicariously by faith through Christ who kept the law perfectly.

1 Corinthians 10:23 re: Believer's Freedom
"I have the right to do anything," you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"—but not everything is constructive.
Read it and weep or read it and figure out why Jesus came. Then you will be happy to know that we are NO LONGER BOUND BY THE LAW!!!!

Only the ones that say homosexuality is bad. I suppose the ten commandments too, but not the stoning part. And of course that you have to believe that God made the earth before the sun. Or does it say you have to believe that?
