They are all legalistic.

Following Jesus is like playing "Follow the leader", in which Jesus tells us what dangers, traps and pitfalls to avoid in this life. I don't consider it a religion because He is simply my Friend, and He has adopted me into His Forever Family.

If I follow His instructions (which sometimes I mess up on), I can get through this life to the other side, safely. As shown in the movie, "End of the Spear", I can actually "cross the great snake" (their representation of death) and make it safely across into God's Kingdom.

If someone thinks that being a Christian is all about following a bunch of rules, then they missed the boat completely.

Unless you consider that stopping at red lights is legalistic; or telling a little child to stay out of the busy street is legalistic; or obeying the doctor when he gives you a prescription to get rid of that rash is being legalistic.

If, as demonstrated in these examples, doing what is good and right is legalistic, then you can say that Christianity is legalistic. Otherwise, you need to exclude Christianity as a legalistic religion. (Except, of course, for those who think that following laws and rules will get them into heaven, and they are just like the Pharisees whom Jesus rebuked.)

I find that some of the Pentecostals can be very legalistic in their approach to religion although legalism can crop up in nearly all of the world's religions. The more conservative Jews also seem very legalistic and then there are some factions of Islam that have tons of rules to follow.

Orthodox Judaism has incredibly intracate rules

It also seems to be absent of the spirit that Islam has in its law.

For example in order to save human life a Muslim can do something forbidden (such as drink alcohol or lie) but in Orthodox Judaism a Jew cannot break the sabbath to save gentile life (unless not doing so will bring difficulties to Jews).

They are are legalistic because satan invented them. And it's sad because a lot of Christians are bound by legalism and they don't really know it. Even atheism is bound by legalism.

Jesus came to set the captives free. We just have to make sure we repent. We know the Pharisees were very legalistic and Jesus blasted them!

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. Matt. 23:15

Of the major religions, only Islam has the equivalent of Sharia Law, so I woud have to say Islam. I am aware of no equivalent, commonly used legal system in other religions.

Atom74, of course, is mistaken; he would be unable to give us examples of major U.S. laws that are unique to, or started with, Christianity.

Even split between the extreme Islamics with Sharia Law and the Catholic Church and its Eclesiastic Law. Both impose amorphous, strict and unnecessary burdens on otherwise secular-wise law-abiding citizens.

In other words, they are both extreme instances of religions imposing "law" on their constituents.

I think you may not know what the definition of "legalistic" is. I've never even heard this word before. What are you trying to ask?
