I have been researching them and all the ones i have found seem to be for younger children. I don't want to buy one and find out that it is to little for her. Thanks

She does use the real kitchen . She is developmentally delayed and even though she is almost nine in years she is younger emotionally and academically. She is mildly autistic and loves to play school and house(which is why i want to get the kitchen , for the playroom.)She also loves dolls and just received Baby Alive for Christmas. So if any one has an answer other than the use of the real kitchen i would appreciate it . Thanks

Does she have an easy bake oven? I know that it is not a kitchen but there are recipe books out there that she can use to make miniature versions of real food like macaroni and cheese. Also, Pottery Barn makes a really nice kitchen set that would be fun for her to play with. I wish you the best of luck in your search. I am sorry that people have been so cruel and thoughtless.

Edit- I also found this playset that can be stacked for older/taller kids. http://www.communityplaythings.co.uk/c/DramaticPlay/PlayWorks/index.htm

Finding one tall enough for her to use a few years will be tough. If she kneels it's fine, but I just bought one from Wal-Mart for my 4 year old and she is just right. My 8 year old can play too, but the lower part is too low unless she is kneeling or sitting. I would suggest building a sturdy box to secure the kitchen on top of to make it taller for her. You may be able to find individual pieces at an specialty store. Preschools have them that look bigger than the regular one.

Do a search for 'large play kitchen' and you will find some with a height of 42 inches.

I just bought a kitchen from Walmart and it was pretty big. I don't think that it is only for little kids. Your not going to find one made for a nine year old. But the ones that say 3 years old and up are fine. They have alot of things to play with and they are very tall. I play with my kids with their kitchen and it's fine.

Purchase a couple of cookbooks for children and have fun with her in the real kitchen. You could even get her her own apron and set of potholders. Make sure before you get started to go over basic safety rules for the kitchen. Have someone take pictures of the both of you, you could use them for a scrap book.

Have Fun!

Just a thought, but she might like "playing kitchen" with mom in the real kitchen. She's just the right age to start learning properly.

my son wants to play kitchen with me, because it's time to spend together.

you don't need to by a thing. you have it already in your kitchen.

grab her a broom and if it's too big you can by a smaller one at a toy store (still works!), she can help set the table, and help make brownies, and you guys can sit down with a few teddy bears and have tea (decaf!).

she can grab a chair and help you stir stuff on the stove (you hold the pot!), she can butter the bread and make sandwiches (use a spatula if afraid of knives).

my son now peels potatoes and grates cheese (he's almost 11).

the kraftscanada website (and others) have lots of meals kids can make.

she can help make toast, scrambled eggs (in the microwave)

and if you use plastic dishes, she can help wash those up! if you have a dishwasher teach her to load it (you load the sharp knives). she will love that

and afterwards, give her a mop, she might not do it perfect but she'll get a big self esteem boost.

My kids at 8 and 10 have been "cooking" real food since they were WAY LITTLE! I mean, like eggs, and bacon and making cookies.

But they still like to pretend!!!
Let her have her play kitchen and pick up REAL old pots and pans at garage sales or freecycle!!
My kids have all those real noisemakers, too, the blenders and mixers that REALLY work...and they like those when pretending, and that dont keep them from wanting to do the REAL thing!
Kids NEED to be able to use their imagination....!!!
Happy Cooking!

If she is almost 9, I see no reason why she should have to play kitchen. Teach her to cook and bake and let her use the actual kitchen.

no longer plenty you're able to do if she insists on going. the very undeniable fact that she's asked you tells me that deep down she does not rather need to bypass although and is hoping you will cease her (using you for the excuse). My answer could be "you're an person and could make your man or woman judgements. whilst you're specific he won't do you any harm then why are you asking me?" Having her pay her very own way as somebody else pronounced is a sturdy concept too.

Why buy her a play kitchen when she can help you make real food in your kitchen? She's old enough, she can measure, stir, etc!
