How do I brake a .AVI file into separate frames so I can modify them, and then re-assemble it?

I wanted to add one of my cartoon characters to a favorite show of my nephews to surprise them.

I have captured and saved the show as an .AVI file using TV tuner, but I do not know how to brake it into seperate frames.

Or what graphic program will allow me to work directly with indivgual frames in a .AVI file?

Windows Movie Maker is excellent program to do that.

You can do it quite simply in Movie Maker.
