It sure is to me. I would rather someone just here "do this" than "please do this" or "do this please." I don't so much have a problem with "thank you," since I am only really bothered when I am the one saying it (its not that bad when other people say it to me ;)) But "please" is annoying either way. Does anyone else feel this way?

No !

Without saying please you are issuing an order. No one wants to order people about.

You should try to figure out when this started and what set it off. You seem to have a bizarre fixation on please.

Perhaps this is just a phase you are going through and something else will take its place. Worry about it if it continues; then see your GP about some anger management.

Not at all.

Saying please and thank you are what a person would call common courtesy. How you can find that annoying is beyond me.

It shows you are asking, rather than demanding and that you are appreciative. People respond much better when asked to do something. Demands are likely to be met with disdain and anger.

To me, not to say please or thank you shows a complete lack of respect...not to mention manners...to the person you are "asking" to do something. Even if asking is a problem, I suggest you get into the practice of it. You say it's not bad when people say it to you, so why can't you return the courtesy?

Not to do so is just plain rude and shows you are selfish.

I disagree. I find it quite refreshing when people use the word. It shows that some of us still believe in manners, respect and politeness.

No. Only if it is used in annoying and condescending manner. Without using "Please" in some cases. It sounds more like an order than asking.

please is just a way of letting a person know you appreciate them and would like a favor without having to give a huge explanation. the word please actually packs a big punch and i think it makes most people feel good.

You have a right to your opinion, however Please is a word we use to ask people to do something for you. Most are receptive to Please than, You need to pick up that piece of paper off the floor.

No. If someone simply gives me an order, I'm likely to blow them off.

Yes, I don't like it either. I would rather they say, "could you kindly......" or "do you want to......"

No. It usually does not bother me when someone says "please". In fact, people who don't say "please" can sound very rude and bossy, in my opinion.
