I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday morning, and I followed all of the instructions the surgeon gave me. Expect in the booklet it said, don't sleep with gauze pads. I grind my teeth when I sleep so to avoid dislodging the blood clot I slept with gauze pads... could this do any harm? I cleaned my mouth gently by brushing and salt/water mix, and took some antibiotics prescribed.

Ryan: I meant could this slow down the healing process or cause some sort of infection?

Grinding in your sleep will not dislodge the clots; the gauze is used as a temporary 'band-aid' until the bleeding stops.

The only harm from sleeping with the gauze pads would be if you choked on them...

Once you've healed, get an occlusal guard (nightguard) made. It will help with the grinding...

:)
