Assuming that I would be selected as a Naval Supply Officer, I was wondering what my housing situation would entail after all training was completed.

As a single male officer (junior), would I be more likely to be forced to live on base or outside of the base?

thank you for your help!

Does the Navy continue to pay the housing allowance while you are deployed at sea to take care of mortgages?

And when you are a junior officer, are you forced to live on the base or do you typically have the option to receive the allowance and live off?

As always, thank you for your responses!

To build on the last answer, I was told that junior enlisted would almost always live on a barracks and not receive BAH.

However, i would be a junior officer and wondered if the same applies for the officer ranks.....thanks!

JOs will have the opportunity to decide whether or not to live in the BOQ or live out in town. HOWEVER.. BAH/Single even for a JO may not be enough to comfortably house you without a roommate.

If you are on sea duty, you must request payment of BAH during underway periods. it is not automatic. It can be denied.

Naval supply officer is a job title I believe...choosing the field doen not automatically make you an officer. For that, you will need a four year college degree first.

Many bases have limited quarters for single officers. If they have officers quarters, they are similar to barracks so there would be no housing allowance paid. Single military members can not live in base housing, so if there were no barracks you would have to move off base. You would get a housing allowance based on your rank and the area you live in. It would be enough for rent, but I would not suggest buying a place. Officers tend to get orders every couple of years, so you would run a very real risk of being stuck with both an old and new place, paying two mortgages off one housing allowance..not pretty. I am not sure how housing allowances are handled for singles when they are deployed...finance could answer that.

As someone pointed out earlier, it depends where you are stationed. As an enlisted sailor who had 18 years of service before I was medically retired, I am not quite sure of an officer's BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing). I do know that when I was single and stationed aboard a ship, I did not receive BAH. I lived aboard ship.
After I got married, I moved off ship, and when we went to sea, my BAH was still allotted to me. I do know that there is usually Officer's Barracks on base. These are for single officers or officers on TAD (Temporary Duty) orders.

In the AF, if you are an E-3 (and maybe E-4) and below, you're living in the barracks buddy. Unless you are senior enlisted or married, you don't get BAH. I'm assuming you would live on a ship.

As long as there are no other situations involved you would receive a housing allowance based on your pay grade and command zip code to live off base. Unlikely you would get shore duty right off so you would share a stateroom onboard your first ship while underway.

Paul is right. This will vary by base, country and sometimes even job.

IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOUR STATIONED. THERE MAY BE AN AVAILABILITY ISSUE AT THE DIFFERENT BASES AROUND THE WORLD.
