Most of us have several dreams every night, but just don't remember them. Sometimes people in ill health or with a sleep disorder lose their ability to dream, though. Some medications can interfere with the sleep process... A disorder such as sleep apnea can interfere, because someone with sleep apnea stops breathing several times a night, and this wakes the person just enough to interfere with the regular sleep cycle and dreaming process, which has to start all over again as the person goes back to sleep. If someone loses their ability to dream, they develop an irritable attitude, and distorted view of the world. If the dream interruption is substantial, they can develop hallucinations and waking dreams. Normal, healthy people have several dreams every night, as they go through 4 sleep cycles, then on to rem sleep. Most people don't remember their dreams on a regular basis, and think that they don't have them, but they just don't remember them....... Medications and sleep disorders can also interfere with dream recall. I think the main reason we forget our dreams is because during sleep we are supposed to rest, and process the events of the day. If we were to remember every dream we had during the night, that would be a huge amount of information we would have to cope with on awakening. Some dreams are just creative nonsense, blowing off steam in a creative way, and we have no real need to remember them. In some dreams we try to resolve issues that are bothering us, and if the issue is resolved during the dream, there is no real reason to remember that dream either, it's been resolved and filed away. The dreams we do have a reason to remember are the ones that point to issues that are unresolved, and trying to call your attention to the issue in your waking life. If you don't remember your dreams, then there isn't really anything to be concerned about. If you would like to improve your dream recall, keep a pad and paper within easy reach at night, and where you can see it, and plant the idea in your mind that your dreams are worth recalling and studying....

Everybody dreams! This is a scientifically proven fact. Research has shown that all human beings in a study showed brain activity during their sleep. Just because you cannot remember your dreams does not mean that you do not dream. So why is it that some people don't remember their dream? This may be attributed to alcohol consumption, certain antibiotics, fever, lack of sleep, high levels of stress, and/or unconscious fears about the content of your dreams. Some researchers believe that certain people have a genetic disposition to forget their dreams as they come out of their sleep.

Yes we do.
Dreams had a big place in ancient cultures. The Australian Aboriginal people used them to create their beliefs of the creation of the earth. The Native Americans depended on their dreams to show them the future. While everyone dreams, we don't always remember it. We dream while in a stage of sleep known as REM sleep, which is a very deep sleep. People who seem to have more interest in remembering their dreams, usually remember more of them. It's just that we are not "programmed" by default to remember our dreams.

No. Dreaming means you are still thinking. A deep sleep is without dreams meaning you are truly resting.

Most of the time we dream when we sleep ... usually in the Alpha state (beginning and end of your sleep)
But more often than not, we forget what we dreamed.

Yes, and not only while we sleep. I believe we are actually dreaming all day, but while we are awake our conscious mind takes over and we are no longer aware of what's going on in the subconscious and unconscious mind. So, yes, are dream ALL THE TIME!

Yes, but it depends on what stage of sleep you are in e.g. REM. You usually only remember the dreams you have just before you wake.
