If the bible were never written, and someone wrote it today, you know they would be in an insane asylum, so why today is everyone treating it as truth? Is it not, after all, just a book? Does the fact that it was written thousands of years ago make it more believable? Or, due to the fact that it was the first book that was widespread due to the printing press of the 16th century, did the people of the middle ages not know the difference between fiction from a book and reality? Has faith just been from chance all these years? What if the communist manifesto was published first? Would we all be worshiping Karl Marx?

Grannie Annie, I'm sorry, but you are severely mistaken. In those times, the philosophes, or the people who believed that God was only a "great mechanic" and did not have the power you suggest, did most of the inventing. When did the bible mean technological progress? They are no way related. Are you suggesting that the holy spirit instills the inventive spirit in people? If so, why not invent something to prove God is real? Did he inspire someone to invent sex toys? I think not.

how many people it took to write the bible was not my question. I don't really care how many people it took, if 20000 people wrote the bible today, why would we believe in it?

You guys are screwing up my question. Are some of you so blinded by faith that you can't even consider my ideas?

If the Bible were written today it wouldn't BE the Bible, as that "Book" was compiled from a series of writings that took some 2000 years to come to its final form as accepted by the Catholic Church in the early 4th century CE.
But for the sake of argument let us say that the whole thing was written all at once and by only one person (since according to Jews the Old Testament was inspired by God and according to Christians, so was the New), what it would mean is that I wouldn't be writing this on a computer, I'd be dictating to a scribe who'd be penning it with oak gall ink and a sharpened stick on a sheet of papyrus. There'd be no technology more advanced than the Romans' hypocausts. No way to go faster than a horse can run. No protection against the diseases of childhood. No schooling for 98% of the population. No comprehension of such a thing as "world events". In short, we'd be living in the 4th century BCE.
Thanks, but no thanks. I'm sure it would make for an "interesting" field trip, but live there? Not nohow, not noway!

The Bible was written by about 40 different people over about 4,000 years. It was not the work of one person, and yet the description of God remains steadfast throughout all of them, along with God's call to living a life of holiness and righteousness.
There was no gain for the authors, and in fact, many of them were persecuted for their writings, such as Jeremiah, who was thrown into a pit!
There is one common message throughout all these books, even though these authors couldn't communicate back and forth.
You need to do a little more studying about the Bible and find out what's REALLY going on. I barely touched the surface.
For instance, the entire Bible consists of 66 books. The book of Isaiah, written before Christ and the New Testament, contains 66 chapters.
The first 39 books of the Bible, the Old Testament, correlate to the first 39 chapters of Isaiah, while the New Testament, consisting of 27 books, correlates to the overall theme and message of the last 27 chapters in Isaiah.
An incomplete hidden code was discovered in the book of Revelations, and then the REST of the code was discovered in the book of Daniel in those chapters relating to the end of days. But Daniel was written over 500 years PRIOR to the book of Revelations being written.
If you look close enough, you will see the mark of God throughout the pages of the Bible. God has miraculously preserved His Word through the ages, and He brings about what He says He will do. At least one in every 6 (or 8?) verses in the Old Testament are prophetic in nature, and history can testify to the accuracy of these prophecies, such as the accurate portrayal of Alexander the Great's victories and final defeat when his conquored land was divided between his four sons just as prophecy foretold.
Over 300 prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus, alone, including WHERE, WHEN and HOW he would be born, where he would live, how he would live, what he would do, and even how he would die (over a thousand years before crucifixion was invented!), along with the events surrounding his death, such as the soldiers not tearing his garment in answer to prophecy, etc.
When you can write a book (or a collection of books) as thoroughly accurate in it's prophecies, as well as the consistency of the message between authors that weren't able to communicate; when you can write a series of books in which an earlier book contains the 2nd half of a code, yet hidden away, while the 1st half of the code is written nearly a thousand years later; when you can accurately prophecy the birth, life and death of a single solitary man with 100% accuracy, then come back and we'll talk!

All great questions, and most will probably be answered in a different way by different people, everyone has thier own beliefs. The bible help alot of people, it gives people who have nothing to believe in a reason to live, it gives those with no hope a reason to smile. There's nothing wrong with that, it's not hurting anyone that's for sure. I personally don't really care much about the bible, I don't believe the crap inside of it, but to each thier own. However if the bible was written yesterday we'd be completed screwed.

When one understands that each self-expression for an individual consciousness is made possible through an involvement with Superconsciousness, then each creative work becomes comprehensible as being a gift. The bibles of many different wisdom traditions throughout history are testimonials from people who lived at the time.

Truth rings true for all time,if Bible came out know they would have witnessed the miracles of God and Christ!unless your discounting all of mans History. Jesus came what he did here 1n the app33 years of life changed History for all time, you or I cant revise it as we want to we either accept or reject what he has given us!. I most certainly do accept the free gift of eternal life. I am sorry your confused about it! Read the Bible with open mind, perhaps it will be revealed to you. God Bless! Note to some:look what happened to Jesus and his disciples Jesus crucified, most of disciples stoned exiled crucified, a good question is why? Why would they die for a liar! If Jesus was not who he said he was The Living God why would these people go ahead and die for his sake? Its been said before he was either a liar a lunatic or he was the son of the living God,Paul(Saul of Tarsus) was killing Christians he had a conversion experience he never walked with Christ he died for the sake of the gospel His life is worth looking at also you can find it in Acts of the apostles in the Bible, read the Bible folks don't take it from others use your heart mind and soul make a rational decision.

Well, maybe that's why it was inspired by God and written when it was. The Communist Manifesto is not inspired by God, and Karl Marx would turn over in his grave (so to speak) if he read your "question."
No, not just a book, THE Book.

God said heaven and earth may pass away but His Word the Holy Bible would not.
The Word of God created everything. God spoke it all into existence. Without the Word of God there would be nothing.

finally someone i agree with. i dont understand it either. and especially from the fact it was written from a bunch of different people who lived at different times! i mean one thing for sure it is a proven fact that jesus christ was a real living breathing man, but who said he was gods son? who gave him all this phony power? maybe he was just a crazy guy who said he could heal people. i guarantee one day some cave guy was sitting around his newly made fire and started telling a story and someone else heard and started writing it down as if it were true and some how got every moron to believe it. i mean god is the imaginary friend for adults.
