My previous PC only had MS Works so a lot of documents were in .wps format. I now need to access those documents but only have MS Word 2003 which doesn't seem to be able to understand the wps document. Any ideas?

There shouldnt be any problem at all, both are Microsoft. I use both programs a lot and in fact have just to test it out, created a wps file and opened it in both Word 2003 and 2007 without problem.

Open Word and click on the open icon and navigate to the folder in which your wps document is. Make sure that the file type says All Files (rather than just Word) and double click on your file icon when you see it. It should open in Word without problem and then you simply save in Word format, i.e. .doc. instead of .wps

Would there be any way to simply rename it to a .doc file?

I'm not sure if that would work, but I guess it's worth a try.
