Bhutto had blocked the rise of any political heirs apparent and it will take some time for a credible replacement to emerge.

Was Bhutto really a champion of democracy or just another power hungry politician ?

She was the latest in a political dynasty, being promptly buried next to her daddy, the former Prime Minister who was hung in a coup. Families who rise to power and dominance in that part of the world do not do so because they are great humanitarians any more than the Kennedys used to do so in the USA.

Champions of democracy --- all of them, assume power and work for it relentlessly, in every democracy. That is what all politicians are, every where. Benazir Bhutto was one of the most talented among the champions, from her presidency of The Oxford Union; She shined at Harvard; A good daughter, a good mother. May she be blessed !

Same fate as Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, this give me the impression that she faced the same foe where the motive is political revenge inherited. Religion is being politicised as a cover.

She was a very brave woman and Politician.Turn down the volume with the criticisms.Remember she died in the course of her duties.Their will be serious after shocks following her assasination.I cannot agree entirely with the Muslim cultures but they do have many good and solid family values.Your stirring remarks will not help the cause here in the UK.

i think the latter was more apt, like most politicians she was self obsessed and loved to see herself as some sort of martyr. she believed she was born to run Pakistan even though she embezzled the peoples money, she believed they needed her, they don't, they choose their own way of life and love the drama.

I always said the only good polititian was a dead one!
Bhutto is dead proof!
She was a dirty polititian who robbed millions from her people!
Tried to assassinate her brother!
Left Pakistan because they wanted to hang her!
Now she is dead everyone thinks she was an angel!
Go figure?

I think many would describe her as that but my view is that (in a Muslim country) it is nice to see a woman can rise to the top. I do no believe in women being kept down purely for their sex. I have nothing against any religion as I don't believe in any but women do seem to get a raw deal in many of them.
