Yes, 0 is a number.

If you draw a number line from -3 to +3, the number 0 is a valid position on that number line. You can't say that there is noting at the place holder 0. It is a valid number.

Also, you can solve equations that are set equal to 0,
x² + x – 3 = 0 is a perfectly valid equation...

0 is mathmatically defined..

Generally we use NULL or Ø, or may be some other symbol, to represent "nothing" or does not exist...

Hello. Both those who said 0 is a number and those who said 0 is not a number are both correct! The reason for this is that in mathematics 'number' is a very general term and mathematicians recognise various types of numbers.

First, the counting or natural numbers are considered to be 1,2 3, 4 etc. So here 0 is not a natural number.

Next we have the integer (numbers) which are all the natural numbers plus 0 and the negative numbers. So here 0 is a number.

Yes, it is a member of the set of Reals, and the Integers. These sets are also closed groups under certain binary operations, like addition (subtraction). For example, if a and b are reals or integers, then a+b is also a member or the reals or integers. So, therefore, is a-a = 0.
