Hi my baby is 3 months old and i am mix feeding her with formula through the day (with the odd breast feed) and exclusively breastfeeding at night. she is now starting to go almost all night without waking for a feed so i thought now would be a good time to stop breastfeeding. i know it is the best thing for my baby which is why i have done it till now but i am back to work shortly and will find it hard to nurse whilst working. Also i am conserned as she wont settle until she has my breast when she is tired so i am worried she will be really upset and unsettled with the child minder (my mother in law). so how do i stop without upsetting her (she wont take a dummy) and without having painfull breasts. Also what formula will be best for her. i live in the UK and she currently has Farleys first but i noticed that this is cheaper and less popular than the other formula's, should i switch and how do i do that. My baby is very healthy at present has gained weight really well from birth.

You can feed your child how ever you choose as long as it is with either breast milk or formula. If you want to wean entirely then just keep supplementing the breast feed one at a time with bottles of formula, until you aren't giving breast feeds anymore. If you do it gradually it wont be as painful for you. I think you should drop a feed every 4-7 days, so depending on how many feeds your baby is still having is how many weeks until your baby can be weaned. Just be sure about this. Once you gradually stop breastfeeding you may not have enough supply to start again if you choose too.
Good luck. I breastfed my daughter for 10 days, then formula fed until 1 yo. My son was breastfed exclusively until 10m when I started to wean him. He is now 1yo and I am finally down to 1 feed per day. Hopefully by the time he is 18 m he should have let that one go.........wishing and praying, lol

The decision is entirely up you. If you decide to stop breastfeeding (I recently did), the least painful way to stop is to continue to breastfeed, but only when your breasts begin to ache. Breastmilk and breastfeeding have a supply and demand relationship. If you only nurse your baby when it pains you your breasts will produce less milk with each feeding. Your baby will adjust to getting less milk and feeding less. You may have to breastfeed then supplement with a bottle to make sure she's well fed. That way you gradually ween her and still get to bond with her a little longer. I found that wearing a sport bra (or something tight and supportive) helps slow milk production too. As for the formula answer, I live in the US. Good luck!

I used S26 Gold. It is in Australia and one of the best, if not the best formula brand on the market.
My boys were only breast feed for 4-5 months, but due to me becoming terribly ill I had to stop. They took to the formula ok, but while I was sick my hubby gave me some of their wraps to sleep with. Because it smelt of me and their milk, they were easier to settle for my hubby and mother in-law.

OKay so i dont really recommend u to stop breast feeding the little one..she needs it. its the best way for mom and daughter to bond. U willbecoming home so u can nurse her int he night right? u know its good to extract ur milk and put in the feeding bottle ..make sure u store it well int eh fridge..it cant be old for more than 12 hrs ok. U msut let the milk out from ur breasts otherwise it cld get hard and in turn into somehing nasty int eh future. Is it really hard to get leave for at least another 2 or 3 months from work??? im soryr i dont know abt formula coz i breast fed my daughter didnt give her formula till abt 7 months! and i felt Uk long time agao so i cant remmebr wut htey have. y dont u consult abt it with ur health visitor? U have to NHS number right? call it and they will transfer u to the right person. When ever ur baby needs ur milk giv eit to her..no matter how tired u are or sleepy u are..i used to nod nod and feed her i was soo sleepy....have to wake up like 4 am!..life is like that but its all worth it!
