For over 8 years, Mum has periodic bleeding lasting up to 7 days at a time. She had a hysterectomy about 35 years ago. To try to find answers, she's been to numerous gynocologists, has had x-rays, ultrasounds, colonoscopies etc. She's recently had haemorrhoids removed, but still bleeds every few weeks. At her age it is particularly distressing and unpleasant and leaves her very weak. It seems doctors give up when what they try doesn't work.

Has anyone heard of this before? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing the bleeding and/or what could be done about it?

Please get another opinion as this could be a sign of something serious like cancer. I would recommend a consultation with a gynecologic oncologist (a gynecologist that specializes in diagnosing and treating cancer as well as evaluating difficult to diagnose cases) if you haven't already to see what they think could be going on.

Also, if you haven't I would also recommend a consultation with a geriatric (a doctor that diagnoses and treats problems in the elderly) specialist to see if they can help figure out what is going on.

If you have additional questions for me please feel free to
e-mail or IM me off site any time.

Unexplained? save that on your individuals. The Mailbox of affection thinks that perhaps somewhat too plenty lovin' may be taking place there. in simple terms anticipate each thing to heal, and don't be in considered one of those hurry next time.

You didn't say if it was a full or partial hysterectomy. Has she been tested for ovarian and cervical cancers? If not, might want to look into that.

What I wouldn't give to get the names of the doctors who have examined your mother!!!

Get her to Toronto Women's Hospital or have them give you a referral. Don't stop searching for answers and competent care.
