Riddick being a Furian is looking to be the great fighter/ survivor that he is. Fry is a person he has to deal with to keep alive. He is protective of her and the girl because it is his nature to protect all so that he has a better chance of survival. Besides she did nothing to antagonize him. No signs of romance seemed to be there.

Riddick was atrached to the fact that she was strong emotionally, and she was attracted to the fact despite his tough persona, he still showed a soft side and didn't leave them
