someone new to answers thought that reporting someone for their question or answer was a good thing, like a thumbs up?

On very rare occasions I suppose it could happen, like you're
Friend making an Honest Slip, sometimes the things we get Violated for are some of the stupidest things I have ever seen, and I have read their "So Called" Rules and can not see where the question went wrong-but still get a Vio-and you can appeal to you are Blue in the face-Most of the Time it is a Jerk wad that is doing it though, and they just want to hurt someone or they Have NO LiFE!!

Wow I just got reported for asking if people liked my avatar and said I was chatting.
People were being so rude saying I was Pathetic and that I was looking for attention - then they reported my question.
That really bothered me. If I want to chat I can go elsewhere -ya know. I am shocked they allow people to make false claims and then never investigate them.
Your friend is silly for feeling bad - it seems everyone reports for no apparent reason. At least hers was an accident :)

Not often, besides new users don't start high on the reporting credibility list. your friend probably needed another reporter to back it up for the violation to be a success. However there are some uptight idiots on YA who get pleasure from reporting and because they are successful they get moved up the credibility list.

Most violation notices do ot come from people reporting something wrong. Most come from a computer program that looked for words and phrases and then sends notice automatically. Many of the notices are unwarranted. The computer program does make a lot of mistakes.

That's hilarious! I'd never thought of it before. I bet the person who got your friends violation was confused lol. I think you need two though for anything much to happen.

It's like people who think that clicking the "Submit" button means handing over your free will to someone else :)

Is it true you get a point for each thumb's up? Someone mentioned it, I wasn't sure if that was the case.

Kids! Sometimes that happens to me and I have no idea why the question was reported when I have seen way worse questions that what I asked.

It's always some dogmatic imbecile, that is not looking for enlightenment or knowledge, just verification. I NEVER feel bad for trying to educate fools. Mistakes happen sometimes. I never take those people to task.

I'm sorry, but how stupid would you have to be to do that???? OK first instance, you get a flag with report it, and so that supports your theory, but come on, the next page, is it against guidelines or illegal??? At that point the penny should drop unless part of your brain was removed at birth!!!
