Why has Ghostbusters 3 been in development hell for long? Are the Ghostbusters ever gonna come back on screen?

Seriously, Ghostbusters 3 is one of the most anticipated sequels in movie history, and we pretty much know that Bill Murray is not interested in doing another sequel, which I think is lame because there are tons of fans(including myself) that would love to see him back, and plus that is like saying no to a lot of money. C'mon, Ghostbusters is one of the most popular 80's franchises, I loved the cartoon The Real Ghostbusters and still do, not afraid to admit it. I'm sure there are a lot of people that wanna see the Ghostbusters come back. Plus, people say that the Ghostbusters actors are too old, but c'mon, we saw Bruce Willis come back as John McClane for the first time in 12 years this past year, Sylvester Stallone come back as Rocky at age 60, and he's coming back again next year as Rambo, Harrison Ford back as Indiana Jones next year, so why not Ghostbusters 3?, it's not fair. Also I'm aware that there is a Ghostbusters game coming out next year for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 2. I'm very stoked about that, but still, I wanna see the Ghostbusters come back on the big screen. The Ghostbusters have got to come back, just one more time, and I want them in the flesh.

are there any other Ghostbusters fans out there that want a 3rd movie?, because I haven't gotten that many answers

The fact is that they made fun of themselves in the 2nd movie. They were way out of shape then. They are even more out of shape now. Plus, Ramis and Moranis kept getting other projects and other acting roles and so it was placed on the back burner. Besides the last one had Venkmen possibly getting married and having to raise a small boy. Now it is possible to have that boy take over the business.

I read somewhere that the video game is the closest we are likely to get to GB3. Apparently the full cast is going to do the voices and Dan Ackroyd is heavily involved in the writing of the story for the game. I guess it will have to do!

if you want to see it, there is a fan made movie on ovguide .com. just type in "Ghostbusters" in the search bar. I have not watched but the first couple of min. of it, but it does not look like the cheap slaughter that you would expect.
