You ask, 'What is passion?'
Passion is undefinable, unimaginable, infinite, otherworldly. It is the one truly unique characteristic of man.
That's like trying to define someone's personality...no two are the same.
So many words relate: seduction, intimacy, privacy, sensuality, personality.
I would probably define your 'romance' as personal happiness or enlightenment that evolves from interactivity, usu. between two or more people.

This too big a topic to handle here. The late sixes philosopher Alan Watts explores the subject in the Western Tradition. In his book Nature Man and Woman. He explains how Romance love appeared as a value in the during the middle ages. How the idea of Romantic Love is a recent historical invention in the West and Japan. Also he give practical advice for us now.

Doing nice things for the woman ,,, much more than the girl doing for the man. The Romance comes before the sex,, it leads up to it,, sort of like foreplay. Very simply put,, the man teats the woman with subtle things,, treats her as the most special person in the wold. Kiss her hand, open the door for her,, say nice words to her,, that make her tingle with anticipation,, anticipation for,,,, well you got it.

It's hard to seperate romance of experience from that which is fed to us from the media. In the movie'true romance', if was very romantic to kill the ladies pimp. But in life, it was romantic to drive her to tx to get away from the capo's of Ft Lauderdale. It was romantic when a young lady rented not one, but two hotel rooms for she and I, whilest our spouses slept at home. Almost too romantic. It's also romantic when you hand build a sowing box, as a xmas gift to a new wife. Especially if she's yours. It's romantic to miss someone after thiry years. It's romantic to have a champagne breakfest with someone who you've spent your first night with, and not slept yet. It's romantic to lite her cigarette, with your lighter, and you don't smoke. It's romantic to go out in the night to fetch a missing dog or child. It's very romantic to go on a high speed run to save a girlchild from devious goings on at a local hotel. It's romantic to be up at dawn to photograph by the new light. It's very romantic to build, by hand, a new hot rock for her pet python. It's very romantic to be in a tent, alone with her, listening to the night, when a car shows up, and you can hear a couple talking, and making love, and then driving away, and they never saw you. On bikes, you don't park. It's romantic to have a woman collegue turn off the elevator between floors, and ask'howcan I get to know you better'. It's romantic when an old flame rents the two of you a room at the top of a better hotel in Vegas, for three nights. It's real romantic when your 'busy' on the beach and at dawn realize your camped next to a boy scout troop. It's romantic when you waiting for your date, and her mother is drinking, dressed to kill, and asking you leading questions. Hard to decide what's what. It's romantic when your new crush, sends a dozen roses to where you work, and they're for a man who is me, and then comes in to drive me home, in black everything, nylons with a bead, heels, and is a 6 ft blonde. Dangerous romance. But, is it romance to do a three way? Is it romance when a relative lays a kiss on you , and means it? When is romance just down and dirty lust?

Perhaps it is an exercise of love, where 2 or more individuals(people, nations, cultures, etc.) play off each-other.
Cupids Law: Watch how 2 people move when they're kept apart from each-other; That is the greatest proof of how much they really belong together
