You could pronounce it "EYE-rihs" or even "EE-rihs." I prefer the second pronounciation.

The first pronunciation sounds like an old lady to me for some reason.

I like the second pronunciation because of this song.

When I read the question at first, I thought EYE and EE. However, I don't think I have ever heard anyone pronounce it EE. If you use this name, PLEASE use the first pronunciation. The second is just wrong....and not normal. I agree...many people will say it wrong...and many people will wonder what kind of person says their kid's name wrong. Iris is a beautiful flower...and would also be a suitable name for a baby girl.

Even if you choose to say EE-rihs, I think everyone else that sees it will say EYE-rihs, so go w/that.

You should use the pronunciation that you like best however when I see the name "Iris" in print I automatically thing "Eye-rihs". She might get tired of people mispronouncing her name.

Iris (pronounced EYE-ris) is the name of a beautiful flower. Most English speakers are familiar with that word and will naturally pronounce the name the same way.
I think EYE-ris is prettier than EE-ris.

As far as I know the only proper prononciation for that name is
EYE- RIS. I don't know where the 'EE' comes from but it sounds weird. You'd need to change the spelling to accomodate that prononciation.
Either way I don't like the name

If you name a child Iris she will always be called EYE-ris, that is the only and traditional pronounciation.

The only pronunciation I know of is Eye-ris, so anything else sounds unnatural to me.
