ok i have a 750 gb western digital hard drive and i downloaded the zune software to a local disk on my computer... which has no affect on my external.... and later i could not open anything i had downloaded from my external.... whenever i plug the cable into my computer it does recognize the hard drive as well as when i plug it into other computers but i cannot open any of the files on any computer.... anyone know what happened and where i should start my trials be it through microsoft and zune hardware problems, or with western digital? all in all, can anyone tell me what happened?

Before diconnecting the external drive did you wither shut down windows or use the SAfely remove usb hardware option ?
If not data corruption can occur if data not fully saved first.
Step 1 : Does drive SHOW in "MyComputer" ? If no, refresh USB links, see below
Step 2 : Does drive show in Device manager with error (Right click My COmputer, properties, hardware, device manager) If so, right click it, select delete, actually as long as it shows here do this.
Refresh drivers occure after the above step in device manager is done and then windows restarts, THEN plug in drive after windows fully loaded it SHOULD redetect it for you
If files still not accessable, sounds like it got corrupted, so might need formatted.
