i just got two ferrets and i got them kitty litter in the bottom of their cage! can they have anything else besides that! like woodchips or the stuff you put in a hamster cage??? also what do they eat?? ive been feeding them lettace and apples?
Is that okay if i can't get them ferret food?? they dont have any toys either, what should i get them?? thanx for ur help!!;) much apreciated!

Kitty litter is terrible for ferrets. Their respiratory systems can't handle it and it will eventually kill them.
You have to get ferret food. WHat you are feeding lacks taurine, which is essential to their diet. Please be careful when feeding an at home diet, balancing it incorrectly can be lethal.

Ferret food is sold at Target, Wal Mart, many grocery stores and every pet store. It's about the same price as cat food and the ferrets really need to eat this sort of food. Cat food can be substituted in an emergency. My ferret loves to play with the cat toys, especially the little mice. Empty boxes and old socks are also popular. You should take some time to read about ferrets on www.ferret.com or in wikipedia. There's a lot of information and good advice about taking proper care of ferrets. They require so much more than a hamster or gerbil would.

Ferrets are meat eaters, as the article tells and gives some good examples of what to feed ferrets. I don't recommend feeding them lettuce. Give them some fruit or cereal instead until you get their dietary needs in place which should happen like immediately.
