Why is there so much concern about women’s health and none especially focused on men when women leave on average more than 7 years than men do?

Up until the early 1990's, medical research was not required to include women in their studies. Even the original estrogen study that was done back in the 50's that caused such a long-lasting misconception about estrogen was done only on male subjects!! Recent research related to gender is rather exciting because we are learning that males and females are much more physiologically different than previously thought. For example, we just take it for granted that the USDA recommended diet is the right diet for everyone. Guess what? It's not. Females apparently have significant different processes and requirements nutritionally than do men. Nutrition, physical conditioning and pharmacology are three of the areas in which women have some significantly yet unexplored different responses than do men. Medical and pharmacological research is scrambling right now to catch up and separate male and female responses in a LOT of areas that we've just taken for granted to be male-female same. Since women were essentially denied the benefit of medical research for the first 220 years of this nation, it's not REALLY going to get your little knickers in too big of a knot, now is it, if we have a wee bit of the public research funding? Actually, as a member of IRB's (the folks who get to guide research) before I retired, I leaned heavily toward funding no medical research whatsoever aimed at benefitting men for, say, 220 years. That sounds fair, doesn't it? Men should not whine about this subject too much because I'm not the only one who thinks that most of the money needs to be directed towards women's health issues right now, considering how much work needs to be done to catch up.

Because previous to about 10 years ago, ALL medical studies were conducted on men only...women were not included in the research.

As a result, scientists and doctors admit they have a great deal of catching up to do to learn how diseases we know a lot about in men affect women. Only in the last few years, doctors have informed the public that the symptoms of a heart attack in women actually differ from the symptoms experienced by men.

If you were to quit whining for just a moment, you might learn something instead of sinking under the weight of your "poor me" attitude.

Because your argument is biassed, you've just used one website out of the billlions there are. You could have easily typed in google 'mens helath' etc and found many websites regarding prostate health, heart health, steroid absuse etc.

ps: to the person that said women are made from men this is biologically incorrect. All foeteses start out female until 8weeks in the womb.

It has a lot to do with male attitudes. Many men will not discuss health matters or go see doctors until the pain gets so bad they can no longer stand it. Unfortunately, by that time, whatever disease they have has already become terminal and not much can be done for them. Men need to not be so embarrassed about their health and be willing to see a doctor on a regular basis.

I recall a feminist which claimed women specific research only amounted for about 10% of all medical research... turned out, it was a lie (shocking, eh?). Yep, it turned out that women specific research actgually had more spent on it than did male specific.

But hey, since when has reality stood in the way of victimology?
