The happiest people often don't think of their happiness as happiness. They think of it as healthy equilibrium, and very often that equilibrium includes a calm acceptance of difficulties as well. That's a key idea: feeling that "The world, in all its good and bad, is as it's supposed to be. This is more appropriate than it being as I want it to be." Or maybe truly happy people don't think of their happiness at all- they just experience it unselfconsciously without any words.
