All the answers you've been given here have been on the right track ... 'Bittersweet' is a strange combination of words to describe something exactly... 'It had a bittersweet taste....' - initially it's sweet but then leaves a bitter taste in your mouth ..... the word is often used for situations that are not as successful, rewarding or as happy as you would like ....'it was a bittersweet victory'...- the victory was 'sweet' but it was at the cost of something or someone you didn't really want to lose - the bitter part of the word...... You could have a 'bittersweet' type of personality I suppose ... meaning they seem really nice as a person, so helpful and friendly, yet you know that everything they do has a nasty ulterior motive and so accepting their help and friendship will ensure you end up regretting it..... Whether it's a good or bad quality? - I guess that all depends on what you're prepared to accept in your relationships and in personal situations.... most people would want to avoid the bitter and would prefer not to have it there in the first place... so if it had to be described as 'good' or 'bad' then I suppose it would be bad.....

Bittersweet is a perfect blend of sharp bitter resentful taste and sweet delicious sugary taste. If the 2 persons are behaving in such a manner then their communication would really be turn out as a sour flavoured with both of them contributing their kind of attitude.
