Chances are you will pick up the local flavor of speech. If you moved to Brooklyn, you might not acquire such an accent that you'd be taken for a local, but when you came home for a visit, your friends would hear a difference in your speech patterns.

A Jamaican accent is lovely. Learn the history of the area, and move into the culture. Enjoy your new life!

Blessings on you both!

Chandler B= what roots are you talking about? Africans born and living in the USA don't speak their native language. What are you talking about??? her keeping her roots? in Jamaica most of the population are from African descent. The English took over and that's why English is spoken with a broken slang.

Damn you people, hit a BOOK!! stop watching porn lol

To the girl with the Jamaican boy, you're going to be just fine, you guys have this ghetto accent that with the Jamaicans is going to blend smoothly. ;-)

Dont worry, enjoy the trip!! and the caribbean sun.. by the way.. Jamaica is an island located in the Caribbean, the Caribbean is in the continent of America. Just some facts so you don't be dumb over there figuring out where the heck Jamaica is.

is it in Europe?Asia?Australia?Africa? no Jamaica is in the continent of America. It's an island.. beautiful caribbean island.. yaaaaaaaa man lol

no...considering you already fluently speak english and you're not gonna be learning a new language, you'll speak the same as you do now. maybe you'll start using jamaican slang but you wouldn't acquire an accent.

Jamaican culture and accent is great,
Nicole S, What the hell do you mean?
We have our own Culture known as Afro-American culture, my native language is American English.
Our culture does have African root's, however it is uniquely Black American and is distinct from African culture.
Nicole S, please do not disrespect us, I respect your Hispanic culture and heritage and I am begging you to respect my Black American Culture.

Keep your roots!

You'll be unique there. :) Believe me, if you imitate their accent, you'll seem fake.
Southern accents are just as neat!
