For example, lyrically and possibly in every way, Nicole Scherzinger's 'Baby Love' REALLY sucks. It sounds like it was written in a rush and thrown in the album. I'm not trying to bash her but it seems to me like sometimes crappy music is shoved down our throat: a sexy video and heavy marketing is all that is needed to force consumers to think that the song has 'grown on them'. What's your opinion?
BTW I like Nicole: she's talented but that song was one heck of a disappointment.

If this is the case for many people, then doesn't that mean that they really don't get to pick and choose quality music for themselves? What we like is now controlled by the music industry, instead of us!

Well, either you start loving it then it's shoved so much that you hate it...
Or you begin with hatred but grow onto it...
Or you love it then hate it then 5 years later when they stop playing it you love it again cuz you have control...
Or you hate it then love it but it's played so much that you hate it AGAIN... and maybe after that the last thing will happen... again...
Yes, it's very confusing, I know.

No I don't! Every one has different taste in music and it comes down to what appeals to the individual. There are some recordings that I never wish to hear again as i consider them nothing but a lot of noise without any real meaning. i sometimes think that just because a group is popular they expect everyone to like their every recording which is simply not the case.

Just the opposite - I can think of several examples of songs I used to like that now make me ill.
I will confess that the FIRST time I heard the Macarena, I found it mildly amusing. That went downhill after hearing it 6 times in 1 #$%&ing hour!

I like the song, but I agree with you. Songs grow on everyone - the media's clever that way.

No...because what some call "music"...is not music at all...and it took no talent to write it! Unfortunately, there is a lot of it around.
