Brackets ought to be used or question may be read in a number of different ways. Assume that you mean:-
(1/2)q - 6 = (1/5)q
5q - 60 = 2q
3q = 60
q = 20

1/2q - 6 = 1/5q
1/2q - 6 + 6 = 1/5q + 6
1/2q - 0 = 1/5q + 6
1/2q - 1/5q = 6
(1*5/2*5)q - (1*2/5*2)q = 6
(5/10)q - (2/10)q = 6
((5-2)/10)q = 6
(3/10)q = 6
(3/10)q*(10/3) = 6*(10/3)
q = (6*10)/3
q = 60/3
q = 20

q/2 - 6 = q/5
Multiply both side by 10->
5q - 60 = 2q
3q = 60
q = 20

this equation colud be three diiferent equations:
1)1/(2q-6)=1/(5q)
2q-6=5q
-3q=6
q=-2
2)(1/2q)-6=1/5q
(1-12q)/2q=1/5q
5q-60q^2=2q
60q^2-3q=0
20q^2-q=0
q(20q-1)=0
q=0 or q=1/20
since q can not be zero,
q=1/20
3)(1/2)q-6=(1/5)q
(1/2-1/5)q=6
(3/10)q=6
q=20
Next time,please type the equations or expressions properly.

1/2q - 6 = 1/5q
1/2q -1/5q = 6
5q - 2q
----------- = 6
10
3q = 6 (10)
3q = 60
q = 60/3
q = 20

1/(2q-6)=1/(5q)
5q(1/(2q-6))=1
5q/(10q^2-30q)=1
5q=10q^2-30q
0=10q^2-35q
0=5q(2q-7)
thats th best i can do for you

Haven't you been told to collect 'like' terms together?
So trying moving the 'q.s' to one side and keep the constant on the other.
