Thompson is the complete package in my opinion. I think I agree with him on just about everything.
As for McCain or Huckabee, they'd be bad on more than just immigration.

McCain has no chance, Huckabee might, because republican's can't resist a self-righteous religious zealot (I am a republican and this frustrates me to no end) But Huckabee has waffled on immigration so many times its unlikely he'd actually do anything decisive if he was elected.

I hope not. These guys are not the ones I want running the country at a time of war. They are still better than ANY of the Democratic front runners, who are both short term Senators who typically make lousy Presidents. Obama has never run anything, and Hillary's only real experience is looking over her husbands shoulder and trying to drive from the back seat.
