I bought my girlfriend a really nice necklace. 3 carot diamond necklace which set me back a good amount. When I gave it to her she smiled and said "its so nice!". didnt say thank you or even give me a kiss. About 5 minutes later she goes "Hey did you save your receipts?" I asked her why and she says,"Oh I just wanted them, just for my records, like if I need to exchange anything."

BTW her big "gift" to me was this pullover coat.

It may seem insulting at first glance - but did you find out what her intentions were? I have a friend who has reciepts dating back years for literally everything, and she may be the same way. Also - sometimes you need these kind of things as well if you're going to have something insured.

Seeing that she only got you a pullover - it sounds like you had different ideas as to how much you were spending on each other. She may have been embarrassed, and that is why she reacted the way she did.She may have wanted to see how much you did spend on her, so that next time her gift to you could measure up a little more.

I dont konw what the extent of your relationship is with your girlfriend, how close you are/how long you've been together, so it's hard to really say how you should feel. You should be able to talk to her about it though and get things out in the open, so that it doesnt turn into a big issue between you. Personally, if I had spent a lot of money on something for my husband and he didn't really like it - I would only hope that he would tell me, so that I could spend the money on something else that he wants.

Wow. if it was like a sweater and she wanted the receipt to get a different color or size or something, that would have been okay.

If she wanted to SEE, NOT KEEP the receipt to see how much you spent on her so she could brag to her friends, i might have been cool with that.

but, just the fact that she seemed ungreatful and kinda hinted toward exchanging it was very rude of her. Maybe she felt guilty for you spending so much on her, but still...

3 carot diamond necklace? I'd be smothering you in kisses and be making your breakfast every motning...something!

my finace told me he spent a grand on my SHADOW BAND...a friggin' shadow band! I got worried at first, then just freaked out with laughter because I know and appreciate how lucky i am.

Well, i'm guessing she thinks its a cheep knockoff, even though its the real thing, or she could maybe just not like it and wants to exchange it. But yeah i'd feel offended if my gf asked me for a receipt. Plus if anyone shouldn't like there gift it should be you. Pullover coat compared to your 3 carot diamond.

that is a true tramp she didn't even appreciate the gift she didn't say thank you or anything I would take my necklace back ......why do she need the receipt for her records its not like the ***** paid for it with her own money you should ask her if she kept the receipt for that pullover coat cause that would go right back to the store I think that is damn near disrespectful of her

Wow - that kind of rock should have been put on an engagement ring. You would have gotten a better read on the current state of your relationship.

I'd be less worried about being insulted, and more worried about being used. She definitely has other plans for the good $ you spent on this necklace. There is no sentimental attachment to you or your gift.

Don't know how long you've been going out, but my initial read is that you're a good meal ticket and she probably won't dump you until after Valentine's day.

Hope it works out for you...

1. If it's expensive ( = more than $20) I always say I don't like it. 2. If it is clothing, I say it's the wrong size or I have one just like it. 3. If it's under $10, I take it and think about re-gifting. 4. If it's a book, I say I took it out of the library already and ask for the receipt. 5. If I hate the person I say I want to take it back. 6. If I love the person I say I like it because she gave it to me.

First, if you're going to be insulted that she may not have loved your present, don't be rude about her present.

Second, men sometimes see "a really nice necklace" as being perfect for their girlfriend, but maybe it isn't a style she likes. There's no reason you should be moody about it. Perhaps, if you want to be involved in her exchanging it - IF that is what she is doing - then you should let her know that, Yes, you kept the receipt and if it isn't exactly what she wanted, you'd love to take her back to the store so she can exchange for something she does love.

Wouldn't you rather she find something she loves that will always remind her of how nice you were about exchanging your gift, rather than forcing her to keep an expensive piece of jewelry that she doesn't like but will feel obligated to wear to keep you happy?

Most definitely I would be insulted!!! She probably wants to take it back and get something else. Take back the necklace and get your self something nicer than a pullover coat.

I would be insulted
but maybe she just has good intentions
you should just talk to her and find out why she really wants the receipts back

Ask for the necklace back. Don't give her the receipt. Don't be a chump. Whatever she's got, it ain't that good!
