Of neon tetras?
Thats just a matter of curiosity....

But whats the minimum number of platys or guppies I should get?

Can a gourami (Dwarf Blue) live alone? (otherwise, he's not going in the tank)

Thanks for educating me and helping me select my fish y'all.....

~In the wild, Neons would form schools of hundreds of fish to protect themselves from predators by appearing larger (a huge mass of fish that look and move identically is fairly threatening, like a swarm of bees). In a tank, you should have 5 at the VERY least (they require very stable water, so a 10 gallon tank is the minimum I would suggest for anybody short of a fish guru).
~You can keep Guppies and Platies singly, but they do best in small groups (3-5). If you don't want to breed them, get males (females are often pregnant in the store and can have multiple batches of fry from one insemination).
~Dwarf Gouramis do best singly or in pairs (1 male and one female), but seeing as females are very difficult to come by, singly is best.

Have a happy new year!!!

It really depends on the size of your tank. Also for schooling fish, the tank should be the long type tank not a show tank. In a 55 gallon amazonian themed community tank I have have kept schools of around 15-20 neons or more along with other tetras and cory cats.

So for a minimum I would suggest
6-8 neons
4 - guppies (1-male, 3 females)
4- platies (same grouping as guppies)

Dwarf gouramis are a timid species and can live alone but they also look better in a pair.

the minimum number of shoals of neon tetras are about reaching to six individuals...

the minimum number of guppies or platys will be three
one male and two female...that's the basic

a dwarf blue gourami can live alone....that's based on my own experience. it actually greatly depends on the tank conditions that you are providing it.

welcome!

thanks! have a great 2008! =)

You want at least 6 of any schooling fish, although of course you have to take your tank size into consideration.

Yes, gouramis will be fine by themselves.

Schools are large, like a hundred or more. A shoal of tetras, however, is about 5-7.
