What is a Poll Tax?

My state does not offer free ID's to the poor. That is a myth. Most states have no exception.

Again, if the photo ID's were given away for free, no one would argue with voters needing to produce an ID at the polls.

Republicans are just trying to score political points with these bills. If they are interested in "securing" elections, get rid of the fees for ID cards. Its that simple.

No, most states will issue a state photo id without cost. The drivers license typically incurs a fee. Georgia was willing to provide PERSONAL IN HOUSE SERVICE, FREE OF CHARGE so you wouldn't even have to lift so much as a butt cheek to get one, but the liberals called the program racist. Clever. Disingenuous, but clever.

But taking your question to the next level, even if states did have a charge, a decision could be reached with the caveat that a photo id be provided for free for voting purposes.

Your poll tax position is specious but one that the courts have maintained..

MOST states require a fee to issue any official ID.

A POLL TAX was imposed on voters to prove they could read and write. It was a discriminatory way to disenfranchise ( prevent the voting of) minorities who were mostly uneducated at the time.

In every one of the states which have these laws, provisions have been made to make state IDs available for no cost to those whose financial situations render paying the regular fees burdensome.

Why are some people so concerned with maintaining a "right" to voter fraud?

depends on what state you are in . some states will issue a state i.d. to a non driver for free. Many other states charge a nominal fee of $5.00.
