DeeJay -- That sounds like such a refreshing vacation. Hard work no doubt, but pleasing in the end.

The military gives 30 days a year. I once TOOK my 30 days because I had over 50 still on the books. Between my last shore duty assignment and my last ship (USS Nimitz CVN-68 before she left for the west coast in 86) I took a full 30 days! Due to a situation beyond my control, I had to extend my enlistment 4 months to do a year on sea duty. Then after being on board a couple of days, my division officer wanted to know if I was planning on taking any Christmas leave. So, I got off for 2 weeks then, too. I was suppose to spend a year at sea, but wound up only spending a little over 10 months because I took 30 days 'terminal leave' and got paid for the other 15 I still had on the books.

2 weeks. We shared a private compound (main house, 3 apartments, small marina) with several other families; on Grassy Key near Marathon in the Florida Keys. This was 20 years ago, and we really should take another long vacation. The answers about places in Europe and Asia are giving me ideas....;)

A couple of years ago, at age 53, we sold the house bought a 26ft. motorhome and lived in it for about 9 months. We were "workkampers" and did various things at different campgrounds across the US to pay our way. This was a vacation of sorts as I was able to leave a very demanding job and all I had to do was work the poolside tiki bar....how fun was that, lol....

In adulthood - 14 days + 2 days after return home and before work again.

Spent it in St. Martin, FWI and discovered that two weeks+ is definitely the way to go to feel like you REALLY had a vacation!

Two weeks touring the United Kingdom in 1997. This was the best of many great vacations. Would love to do this again.

A couple of years ago the company that my ex boyfriend and I worked at together went into a 2 1/2 month lay off, shutting down the whole plant. We ended up going to his dads house in Hugo. Then all 3 of us went on to Alabama for a week, then back to Hugo for one night, then back to Alabama again for a few days then back to Hugo. Then we came back home. The next day after we got home, he went on yet another vacation. While he was gone, I moved out of our apartment, lock, stock, and barrel with everything I owned and moved back home to be with my parents. (I caught him cheating on me). I never went back to that job either. I got a job close to mom and dads house to where I could watch them both better. Now I will be off all summer with pay.

As a teacher I had all summer off, but I usually worked for the local newspaper and did other free-lance photography and writing. I always managed a long three week trip out west.

One week at the shore. We use to always go only on Friday and return on Sunday or Monday. So we tried it for a week and it got a little boring. We went back to no more than 3 nights anywhere unless it was very far away.
