No one sends snail mail anymore? 20 years ago, this one would have been answered by now, it's been two hours. :)

Yes, occasionally letters get caught in the top where they can be retrieved by anyone -- not just the Postman.

(NOTE: be a Wally, if you see problems with the drop box, contact the Postmaster, or some one in authority at the Post Office-- get any fixable problem fixed)

Wait a minute, I send snail mail, bills. And yes, I do check. Had an envelope once get caught on the flap thingy just as I was leaving and some slob tried to take it. I grabbed it back and shoved it down the slot. Then I waited for the mailman and complained that there was a piece of metal that caused letters and stuff to hang up without going down and other people were stealing the letters, cause I caught a guy doing it. Really great, guy didn't believe me so we set up a dummy drop with a cop friend and nailed two guys trying to steal mail. Also, had a report signed by the police of when I notified the Post Man (who lost his job for negligence).

I still use snail mail and yes, I do check to make sure my letters drop down because I see that some other people do not, and their mail lays right there when you pull the handle back.

Always, sometimes the box is full and I want to make sure it drops down, so that possibly someone could come and stick their hand in the slot and pull out the mail. I'm so untrusting I know, but especially with bills I want to know that they got mailed, I don't want any surprises.

Hey Wicks! Yes I do. I do my mailings at the post office and I can see envelopes when I open to put mine in. I have to push them down before I can place mine in the slot. So yeah I check real carefully.

I still send letters the old fashioned way. And I always check to see they go way down in. Identity theft is everywhere.
