There is a Life Alert commercial on every five minutes on TV. It's been on every five minutes since I was 12. (not really). Do you have it or actually know anyone with it?

Sabina, I feel the sudden urge to apologize now for my rude remark on the commercials, and how often they come on. I have new respect for it now, it seriously helps people. Sorry to everyone.

Yeah....not exactly Life Alert but the local equivalent. My mom has had one for several years. It allowed her to live independently. The service was excellent and they would even call me to tell me she had "pushed her button" and that they EMTs had been called. Now she lives with me and still has "the button." This allows me to continue to work and have a bit of a life and keeps both of us from worrying when she is alone. It really is a life saver even though I agree those commercials are over the top....."I've fallen and I can't get up...."

My parents don't have Life Alert, but they do wear an alarm on them that I bought for both of them to wear. It is very loud and it works for me as I live next door to my parents. I got one for each one of them since they fall a lot. This way should they get down, fall down or what ever and can't get up on their own, they can pull the alarm and I go find them and help them up. Also once I am there, if I think they need medical treatment, I will either take them or call 911.

Yes a lot of the clients I take care of wear them. I do agree they don't need to play the commercials quite that often. But it is a good thing none the less.

My mother had one for the last couple of years of her life. We thought it was a good idea...only problem was, she would never use it. She would ring us in the morning, and say that she'd been worried about noise in the night, or she'd had chest pain or whatever, and we'd say, "oh why didn't you use your Life alert?" and she'd say, "oh, I don't like to bother those nice girls, they might have been asleep!"

She never could get used to the idea that we were paying those nice girls to stay awake and answer her calls ! Anyway It made us feel better that she had one, though she never did use it !

My cousin in Vegas is 80 years old and lives alone.

She falls often and can't get up without help and uses hers quite often.

She keeps falling in her hamper, head first and can't get out.

I would have one if I lived alone but my husband watches out for me.

We have monitors in two rooms, if I call out for help he can hear me.

Life Alert is a good thing for those who need it.

My mom-in-law, gives everyone concerned peace of mind. I have had occasion to respond to a call, and feel it's worthwhile.
