Platys?
Guppies?
I'ld like to get two of the three, but if that can't happen, it can't happen.

My tank stays at a consistant 74 without the heater.....
I'm ordering a better one right now, that will hopefully be more consistant - it fluctuated all over the place...

As another user mentioned, the Guppies' large tails tend to attract attention from other fish, especially narcissistic fish like Gouramis. For this reason (as well as the fact that Platies are larger than Guppies), I would suggest Platies over Guppies for your Dwarf. Platies ARE tropical fish, and a temperature near 78* is best (same with the Dwarf Gourami) while Guppies often do best in slightly colder waters. Dwarf Gouramis, unlike their larger relatives (Blue Gouramis, Gold Gouramis, and Opaline Gouramis are all color morphs of the same fish), are quite peaceful and really only show aggression towards other Gouramis or anything that could be mistaken for a Gourami (so do NOT keep multiple Gouramis in the same tank unless it's quite large). For this reason, long finned fish like Angels, Fancy Guppies, and Bettas should be avoided. Also, avoid aggressive fish like African Cichlids and larger South American Cichlids. The only Cichlids I would recommend keeping with Dwarf Gouramis would be Rams, Kribs, Apistos, Festivums, or other relatively sedate Cichilds with short fins. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I don't really see why you can't get all three actually. One factor that will hinge, and it's not mentioned out here, is the tank size. Dwarves can be rather temperish, but they are not on the same aggressive levels as most South american and African cichlids. If there are alot of plants and decorations around, if the Gourami wants to become assertive in the tank, that would provide cover for the other fish. Platties should be quite fine. They have some decent size to themselves and probably wouldn't attract any attention from the Gourami at all. Guppies have a chance of that with the longer tails. I still think if you put enough cover in the tank, plastic caves, rocks, plants and other similar decorations, you probably could make this work, and on that basis I say you can get all three, provided you're not trying to populate like a 10 or 15 gallon tank with these.

Of the two you mentioned, the platies will do better with the dwarf gourami but both need a little warmer temperature. But if you are looking for a tropical fish that comes from the same region of the world try some of the more peaceful, smaller barbs such as cherry barbs or gold barbs. These are both timid, schooling fish and are relatively peaceful (not fin nippers). Also could try some of the rasbora fish such as the Harlequin rasbora.

Gourami's tend to be a little more aggressive than some fish...however, the Dwarfs I had were less aggressive than the blue or gold gouramis.
I would say platies would be the better compatibility for you...they're about the same in aggression as a dwarf...guppies tend to get their tails picked on by more aggressive fish and killed.

From your other questions I noticed that your tank is only 5 gallons and that is too small for a gourami even a dwarf then you want to add other fish that is too large of a bio-load!
