If the left is against Illegal immigration, and voter fraud (as they claim) you would think they would be for this and not against it, what say you?

There are a lot of STUPID people out there on this idea. The ballot box is the CRUX of our democracy. Democracy is (at least I was taught that it was) the essense of what permits us to operate as a free and independant nation.

If these things are true, do we perpetuate these values by letting ANYONE access to the levers of this democracy? Because a person EXISTS does that give him access to the levers of democracy? SHould we THEN permit all the world to participate in our democratic elections? After all, what could be more true to the SPREADING of democracy then to give all the world access to our system?

Sound ludricrous? Of course it is. This is MY country. Its personality (NO MATTER WHAT YOU MAY THINK OF THAT PERSONALITY) its beliefs, its stature, its policies, and its politics are PURELY and uniquely OURS. No one THINKS like us, no one WORKS like us, no one acts like us. WHY should ANYONE with an opinion (from whereever that opinion might come from) be allowed to INFLUENCE the direction of this country?

That Lady standing in the harbor in New Youk City is not there to lay out a red carpet for the world to trample on, but rather to invite people to EMBRACE OUR FORM of life. That form is represented in the ability to influence the policies of this country through the ballot box.

Before you are allowed to participate in the actuation of the levers of this great country the very LEAST you should be able to do is demonstreate WHO YOU ARE.

Anyone NOT in agreemet with this principal is un-American. Why? Simple. Because you are willing to let the destiny of this country be determined by peope with no allegiances to any professed principals other than themselves and their immediate and selfish interests, free healthcare, free travel across borders, free access to all of the bounty of this land with NONE of the obligations that come with that bounty.

We have a name for them. It ain't illegal immigrants. It ain't undocumented aliens. It ain't wetbacks. We call them pure and simply, freeloaders.

Look at the foundation of this country, what it stands for. Not built on the idea of a free ride, OR a free vote.

A simple ID is not asking too much to participate in the American dream.

In short yes - there should be an effort made to have some sort of valid ID shown Long gone are the days when a utility bill with your address on it and someone from the nieghborhood saying "yep I know him/her" is good enough I grew up in a small town in Ontario Canada - where we trusted each other - My wife and I have shown up to voter booths with my phone bill and the only response I got was - "thats your address you go over there to vote " I showed up in 1997 to get my new picture ID health card - and had no other ID - my father said - This is my son - and the government lady said - "Sign here " photo's over there - move along we have to keep the line moving Sir" Great - that has always been a huge plus living in Canada - I have loved the simple get it done cultural attitudes But - times have changed and we need to stop that It is sad it is lost - it is sad we can't do things like that any more But we need to understand this We can't do business like that in the 21 st century any longer Nor can we have the line up's at the airport for customs that have a guy ask - Are you Canadian ? yes - Good move along move along -

Many poor and old people do not have picture IDs. Requiring picture IDs gives the Republicans votes by denying the poor and the old the right to vote. Republicans fear the poor and the old voting because they tend to vote for Democratic candidates.

Every time I've voted the roll shows every address with the registered voters that reside there and they cross it out when you vote.

Voters were required to meet those requirement back in the days of Jim Crow. Don't let the Republicans bring racism back.

Yes , if they've never voted there before, or are otherwise unfamiliar to the poll workers.( I don't get asked, as they all know me.) As long as it's free . The resistance might be due to it being used as a form of poll tax , in some places it's been tried .

In some places in Georgia & Florida, (maybe elsewhere ) the government officials in charge , happened to be Republicans . They made the IDs difficult to get, sometimes refused to honor them, and charged enough to make it painful for some, especially elderly poor , on fixed incomes . One place(Atlanta area?) put the only source of IDs ~20miles from where most people lived , where buses didn't go, and a taxi ride was prohibitive. The people most inconvenienced "happened" to be overwhelmingly in areas thast usually vote for Democrats . The courts ruled against most of that stuff, but too late for many . I can understand the skepticism.Should be done though , as long it's accommodating as possible, and not used as part of the "game".

ps Illegals voting? =)))) Give it a rest . Not likely , given the probability of police being there, as the polling places are public buildings . (My polling place for ex, has the state police crime lab in the building . Would think the State Troopers might be a deterrent . ;D)

I am pro immigration, no matter what, however I beleive that voters should b required to show ID because, immigrants who haven't been here that long, or people under the appropriate age, probably wouldn't have the best judgment for what America needs right now. nothing against them, just it would b like taking a test on AP psych if ur in fifth grade or something

I have no problem with it on this condition...

That the state provides free voter ID cards. As long as there is no fee to get the proper ID that is ok.

There is no law or requirement for people to have an ID card in the USA. There is no fee to practice free speech, walking into a church, writing a petition or standing in front of your state capitol builiding with a sign. Therefore, there should be no FEE to vote.

Do not twist the liberal view. We have no problem with ID cards. But, if grandma doesnt drive and has no need for a photo ID in everyday life, why should she have to pay 10-15-20-25 dollars for a state ID that is only used to vote. THAT SHOULD BE FREE.

IT SHOULD NOT COST MONEY TO EXERCISE YOUR GOD GIVEN CONSTITUTIONALY PROTECTED RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS...

What is next, you need an ID card to protest?

The right is mostly against illegals, and popular left wingers are for illegals, so in that case, they would be against showing ID. But where I vote I have to.

Without a doubt some form of "Secure" ID should be required. Politics is crooked enough without encouraging those that would take advantage and subvert our constitution by fraudulent means. Not doing so, might bring too many "ILLEGALS" to vote for their own twisted agendas.

I say yes only because if no ID is shown anyone could vote in your place. If they find your voter's card they could go and say they are you. Lots of people don't vote so there is a chance it would never be known that someone voted in your spot..

In our state we vote through the mail. But I think that when people register to vote by all means they should have the proper ID.
