I think it is difficult to tell what anyone who expresses a reaction to the assassination might be thinking or trying to achieve in making a statement.
Many candidates may feel an event of this kind may be "fair game" for campaign points. It's easy to say the wrong thing.
I am not a great fan of conspiracy theories, so I'm not going there. I will wait for whatever may come out in the investigations that are bound to be made in this tragic event, which makes things more difficult in a country which already has a great deal of difficulty facing it.
I don't know how much or how sincerely the Pakistani government will investigate the murder, but I have no doubt that it will be investigated by the media if by nobody else.

Hard to say. I found myself making quite a few "points" today to my friends and parents about Pakistani recent history and US involvement, and I'm not running for anything! :P
Although it's unlikely as a pure motive for political candidates, sometimes people just want to talk about something, especially if raises as much indignation as this assassination. I can easily see it as both earnest expression and grandstanding at the same time.
