To show to you that theorems, such as Pythagorean's theorem, Snell's law, or the law of sines, are correct. After all why would you believe that
a^2 + b^2 = c^2 or that (sin(a)/A) = (sin(b)/B)
unless you can prove it yourself?
And believe it or not, geometry is useful in life even if you decide not to become an engineer, physicist or architect. What if you need to figure out the square footage of a room, or how much carpet you need to buy, or the shortest distance between two places later in life. Often geometry is useful. If you don't know basic math (including geometry) you will get ripped off often, or will be unable to solve many of life's everyday problems.

That's surprising! I don't find proving in geometry useless.
On the contrary I find it challenging. It helps me to be more critical in thinking and reasoning. If you can prove a theorem in Geometry that means you understand more about it.
We don't have to always question what practical purpose or application does it serve. Many inventions and discoveries did not have immediate practical use. Many scientific theories were not formulated with the end in view of their utilitarian benefits to mankind. And yet, those same theories have revolutionized mankind. Modern technologies owe much of their present state to these so-called "useless" theories when they were first formulated.
Geometry is found in many important disciplines: physics, astronomy, engineering, etc., etc. How can a subject be found so useless? May be, and I hate to say this, it takes a more open and appreciative mind, to see the usefulness of this subject. Just because it is difficult to prove doesn't mean it is useless. May be those who say so ought to look further into themselves.

They are the building blocks of knowledge.
If it cannot be measured, then it is probably just opinion.
If you get enough people together with the same opinion, they will reinforce their own opinions and make the mistake that their opinions are knowledge.
This has been done with the following ideas:
The flat Earth.
Geocentrism.
Heliocentrism.
Lysenkoism.
N-rays.
Lumeniferous Aether
The idea that anything as small as a bacteria could not harm a human being.
The idea that a race/country/religion is superior or inferior to another r/c/r.
Oops this list is endless.
I, for one, get tired of chasing down these false ideas.

Whats the purpose in geometry period? it is entireley utterly pointless and they do not need to teach this mess to the children in our schools. Dr. Larry Sullivan is petitioning that geometry be reserved for those interested in taking it in college so that those who will use it be given the course.
Proofs prove geometric theorems to be correct

As well as teaching math, they also help you learn how to think logically.
I love all these answers that state you never use geometry in real life. My favorite is a student I had who said that he didn't need to learn geometry because he was going to work for his father's business. When I asked him what his father did, I was told that he was a plumber; I couldn't stop laughing.

There is no use of them really. They will just help to reinforce things you will eventually learn later in geometry and trigonometry.
