Would you be mad if you found out a cousin, or a friend, or just someone close to you 'took' a baby name they knew you've always loved and planned on using?
I recently found out that one of my cousins that I used to be close to had a baby girl not too long ago (congrats to her) and she named her exactly the same name I've always wanted.
Everyone knows this particular name is my favorite (b/c well I've told everyone) and I dunno.. I know it's kinda selfish, but it just ticks me off that she would do it.

Ah, lol it's good to know that I'm not the only one who would be pissed. Or well.. in my case am pissed.
I would've kept the name to myself, but I've loved this name ever since I was little. Whenever playing, I always used the name and just always commented on how I was going to name my child it.
I still love LOVE the name, but I dunno if I'll ever use it. Maybe as the male varient, but even then, I'm not sure. Maybe as a middle name *shrugs*
I do have another fav name now though so all isn't lost! heh

Oh and yes she did know about how much I loved the name. Actually she was the first person I had ever told it to.

i guess if you told everyone then the name was fair game but i know what you mean that wasn't very cousinly of her. Pick a new favorite name and keep it to yourself. Tell know body until you are introducing your child to them. To answers your question yes! i would be very mad!!!

Yeah, I was pregnant at the same time as my cousins girlfriend. Guess what- she had the baby a week before I had mine, named the child the name I was about to give my baby. So I had to come up with something else because I didn't want them to have the same name. I am still mad.

When my grandma got pregnant with my mom she stole a name her sister wanted to use if she ever had a girl (at this point she had 3 boys). My grandma told her sister she was taking it and Aunt Billie told her that it was ok but if she ever had a girl she was still going to use it. And 2 years later she did have a girl and used that name.
Long story short: If you love the name that much use it anyway.
But ya... I'd be really pissed.
Good luck!

what is the name? Maybe you could still use it, but just change the spelling. Or if you had a first and middle name and she took both, you could switch them around, or whatever. But,really, if you love the name, there's no reason you can't use it too. 2 can play that game.

just spell that same name differently or wait until you become pregnant if you aren't already and then decide for sure on a name. I have found as much as we like names and things all that changes when you get pregnant and you start thinking of all kinds of things including names. i would be a little upset but i would find another way to spell it or just choose a different name.

Unfortunately it does hurt when this happens and it makes you feel like you shouldn't have told that person your great idea. My cousin named her daughter Olivia Marie-The EXACT same name I wanted to name my 1st daughter. My best friend is naming her son Ethan Joseph-The EXACT same name I chose for my first son. It hurts but there is nothing you can do about it. If you say something it would just make the situation worse. Sorry:(

If you have a chance, ask her why she named the baby that name. My guess is that she heard the name but forgot that it is yours. If you name your baby that same name, it will look like you were copying. I guess I would go with a "Plan B" name and tell it only to your diary.

Same thing happened to me. it was 22 years ago. I was upset at the time but you have to let it go. Pick another name and enjoy your baby!
