Very much. It is a very outdated institution. It is usually an empty gesture made by people who have very little imagination or sense of independence.
It all comes down to conditioning - what values you are brought up with. Just because we are expected to marry doesn't meant that we SHOULD if we don't want to. I have an Uncle who has been with his partner for 25 years and they have three kids but they never got married and have a wonderful, respectful, loving relationship.
The divorce rate is higher than ever right now in America because dumb kids think they need to get married to be just like everyone else and marry the first chump that gets down om one knee without really understanding the concept of "the rest of your life". It is indicative of our fast paced, pressurized and totally self indulgent society which breeds carelessness, greed, apathy and over indulgence.
Marriage is not for everyone but it is for some so while I do think it is outdated and unnecessary for most I do still think it can work for the few people who actually do find their perfect match. Unfortunately that is very few people!

To some people it maybe because they are afraid to fail at it.This day in age married people give up on their spouses and marriages too quickly .You have to be truly committed to those vows to have a long lasting happy marriage.
