Probably the Beatles would have been the Stone's counterpart. The Beatles appealed to the teeny boppers and were a little easier for parents to digest. As far as the Stone's go, they appealed more to college age people. However, the true counterpart to both the Stones and the Beatles...were "The Doors". Now this was the band that was most removed from the flower child movement of the 60's. The Doors looked for truth by "moonlight". I love The Doors...long live Morrison!

The Beatles. Also, probably the Who; they're the main reason why the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus took so long to be released. The Who's performance was better than the Stones'.

Back in the day the Stones were the 2d or 3d British band so it was the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Yardbirds.

There was this pop band called The Box Tops that had a song called The Letter that was huge for two years on the worldwide circuit. If you've ever listened to oldies stations you have probably heard it. They were pretty popular and were about as anti-Stones as you could get.
