Silverados are damn good trucks. Couple of bolt ons and they will fly. Mine will do 128 mph, and is capable of beating a mustang cobra (non-supercharged), even as old as it is. Plus they do sound good..
Gas mileage is way better, and ride quality is awesome on the Chevys. They have long been known for that.
On top of it all, they cannot be beat for longevity. But that all depends on how well you care for the vehicle, keeping up with routine maintenance and such.
There's pros and cons to each. Do some more research. Ford has more horsepower and torque stock.
My 94 has over 300,000 miles all original, and my show truck has 265,000 miles, and still runs fast, and still gives me 21 mpg on highway. Check it out, can't beat how it runs with that many miles.
Good luck with whichever truck you chose!

What trucks are you talking about. For the 1/2 tons the Chevy looks like crap and the Ford sits 2 feet off the ground so Dodge. For the 3/4 tons it's basically the same thing so Dodge 6.7 Litre Cummins and for the heavy pick-up trucks the Ford and the 6.4 Litre diesel looks the best and the GMC and the Chevys are the most powerful.Who buys a pickup truck for speed and sound?

Chevrolet by far. Both trucks have rev limiters in high gear so speeds will be no higher than 100 mph. In 2010 Chevrolet will be coming out with a brand new diesel motor to be used in half ton pick-ups. GM's statement said the motor will fit where ever a standard Chevrolet small block fits now in any GM car. It'll be 315 horsepower and 520 lb. ft. of torque with only a 4.5 liter engine size. Any present Chevrolet gas motor gets better mileage and more horsepower than their equal sized counterpart Ford motors. Ford has a pretty good new diesel but it comes in a 450 chassis only. The other Ford diesels are slow and do not have the torque or horsepower of Chevrolet's DuraMax Diesel.

Pickups neither go fast or sound good. As to which is better. Why Chevy of course.

It all depends on if you are going to use it as a truck. If you are going to haul or tow, I would go with the Ford.
